Well That Didn't Go the Way I Planned

I mentioned last week that I was going to be featured in the Boston Herald.  Excited was not an accurate enough word to describe how I felt.  Well, the article was in yesterday's Herald and as great as it was, a few negative (and I mean negative) comments completely ruined the experience for me.

My article was about Moms Saving Money.  Awesome.  I figured there would be comments about the article related to the whole Extreme Couponing debacle.  I also figured there would be comments about my choice to be a stay at home mom (work at home mom, technically).  I never, ever thought there would be comments about my appearance.

I took the day yesterday to digest the harsh, mean, cruel comments.  My family and friends rallied.  A few moms on Twitter even attempted to comment on the article, but their comments weren't posted (hmmmm?).

Last night I took some time to really think about the whole thing.  You know what I decided? I decided to say Screw Off to those people.  I will rise above the negativity.  After all, celebrities deal with this kind of stuff all of the time.  I'm happy to be in the company of celebs  :)

Have you ever run into a situation where people were super mean?  How did you handle it?  I'd love to  hear your take on this whole thing.

Big thumbs up to Screw Off. Jess, I can't even tell you how upset those comments made me. I wasn't around yesterday to be able to talk with you about it. My husband's best advice about the whole thing was that those people that made those comments have horrible self esteem, nothing better to do with their time and spew hatred, negativity, and toxic energy toward others. Screw them. Mean people are horrible and don't deserve any time or energy. I'm still shaking about the whole thing, plus I feel like the article did a poor job conveying what we were trying to get across. (I spent a lot of time talking about how my family eats organic, healthy foods...nothing processed or boxed and I specifically told her that people who criticize this do so because they feel it's all processed junk). But anyway, don't waste any more time or energy on this. Anyone who puts themselves out there is open to this bs, I'm just sorry it happened to such a nice person as you. Continue to rock on with your bad-ass money saving self.

You are awesome and doing amazing work. Don't let anyone get you down or forget that! It's hard to be famous especially with such simple minded people out there. Keep up the good work!

I love the title of your blog by the way. I think when you put yourself out there unfortunately that is what we are going to get. I would just tell them to screw off like you said and continue to be yourself and say what you want. Your opinion is important. If there are some people who reacted negatively so what. There will always be one person that you may have touched and changed their life.
